Yearly Round Up For 2018/19
The season just gone has got to be our best yet, and that takes some doing!
Once again we fielded nine teams in the local Stroud & District table tennis league with our sides being represented in all four divisions. Our newest team playing in division one was nominated as our “C” team as the three youngsters were new to the division, however once they had got over their early season nerves and their confidence began to grow, they began to beat team after team culminating in becoming division one champions. Credit goes to their captain Dave Hadley who kept the three youngsters under control.
We weren’t so busy picking up trophies from the Stroud Closed this season although Liwu Wei was the runner up in the vet singles and Lydia Harris was a winner in the ladies doubles and runner up in the division four singles. Other awards went to: Thomas Spellman (Mickey Holbrow) and Sam McIvor (Andrew Golding).
Again we entered two teams into the National Cadet League with our “A” team (in their final year as they are now too old) finishing as runners up despite going one round with only two players. The junior players also featured well in the junior county championships with Tom Powlesland winning the U’13 category and Sam McIvor winning the U’15 and U’18 titles with Tom runner up in the U’15.
Not to be out done by all the juniors efforts club captain, Dave Hadley, led a veterans team to the top of division four in the prestigious British League. A great achievement in just our second year competing in this top level event.
No sooner had the winter season finished but the summer league started. We entered two teams in the Cirencester League with Sam McIvor and Jon Ramsbotham representing the “A”Team and finishing the season again as champions of division one. Young Joseph Hadley led the “B” Team to joint top of division three.
Well done to everyone who played for us this season and attended our practise sessions, we are always open to newcomers of all descriptions especially young boys and girls.
